What STDs Are Tested?
-
Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea
Testing involves a urine sample or swabs from potentially affected sites. These bacterial infections can cause urethral discomfort or discharge, or may show no symptoms at all.
-
HIV
Blood tests detect antibodies and viral proteins. We offer both rapid screening tests with same-day results and laboratory tests that can detect infection earlier after exposure.
-
Syphilis
Blood tests identify this bacterial infection that progresses through distinct stages if left untreated. Early detection allows for straightforward treatment.
-
Herpes (HSV-1 and HSV-2)
Blood tests can detect antibodies to herpes viruses. Swab tests of active sores provide the most accurate diagnosis during outbreaks.
-
Hepatitis B and C
Blood tests screen for these viral infections that affect the liver. Vaccination is available for hepatitis B.
-
Trichomoniasis
Urine tests or urethral swabs detect this parasitic infection that often causes minimal or no symptoms in men.
-
Mycoplasma Genitalium (Mgen)
Mycoplasma Genitalium (Mgen) can only be detected using specific PCR tests. It is not routinely tested in STI tests, so make sure to request it during your screening if you want to be tested for it. We offer PCR testing for this bacteria via urine, vaginal, throat or rectal swabs.
-
HPV
While routine HPV testing is not typically performed for men, examination of visible genital warts caused by certain HPV strains is available. Urine testing is available as an option for screening for HPV in both men and women. For men who engage in receptive anal sex, anal pap smears are recommended to screen for anal cancers.
